PROBLEM
The body panels on my own car needed custom-fit vent and trim parts, where off-the-shelf parts don’t exist or don’t fit.
BUILD
I scanned the hood, engine vent, trunk vent, under-hood area and side pod with a Revopoint MetroY Pro structured-light scanner, then modeled parts against the scans: hood vent fins, an engine vent pod, honeycomb trunk and side-pod vents, and under-hood louvers. Large parts were split across print plates for a Bambu Lab X1 Carbon, in PLA and ASA.
STATUS
Final part files as of June 2026. Photos of the installed parts are coming.

KEYNOTES · BUILD NOTES
- The hood scan is 3.22 million vertices and 6.41 million faces. The side pod was captured at 0.37 mm point pitch.
- 13 honeycomb variants of the side-pod vent in one day, April 18, 2026.
- A bad cut on the under-hood part was backed up, rebuilt as left and right center-cut plates and re-exported.
- Print files use ASA profiles, which hold up to heat and UV better than PLA.
- Also in the shop: a mesh edit that extends the rim of an existing 58 mm coffee dosing funnel. Not yet printed.
